A post I posted 2 years ago, worthy of reposting in honor of my Oldest Brianna that is about to graduate from Stephens College and who has shown me through her voice and her accomplishments (and her capstone project) even more what this means! I am so blessed to be your mom.
My post isn't about being a male basher that feels I don't "need a man". It's not about being a feminist that doesn't really know the true definition of what feminism truly is. If you look up the true definition of "feminism" then I would dare to say we are ALL feminists! feminism=the belief that women and men should have equal rights and opportunities. The purpose of this post is to honor my mother. My mom is not on facebook but I want to honor her right now. My mom taught my sister Lisa Bauman to become independent women that did not depend on a man. A woman that could have a fulfilling life because of who we are, not because of who the man in our lives is or even what he can give us! Do we both love and respect the man in our lives? Absolutely! They are both amazing. The teaching from my mom did not leave us as male haters. It encouraged us to find the man that we COULD respect and it also encouraged us to make choices that would lead us to a life that we are proud of, even in spite of our own mistakes and wrong choices. I do have an amazing husband that is a wonderful father and a great provider. However, it does not keep me from working hard and hustling to build my own dream that benefits both of us. I plan to build the cabin he has always wanted (and 2 years later I HAVE DONE THAT!). I plan to allow him the opportunity to work less and do what he loves. I plan to help other women do the same thing. If this post resonates with your spirit, talk to me. I would love to mentor you. We can do this together. To all my hustler friends that ARE doing this alone, to all my hustler friends that have dreams and are pursuing them because you too believe in the concept. I am not just talking about those of us in networking. I am talking about all of you, all of us. NO matter what your dream is. Let's build each other up and support one another regardless of what our dream is! That is what women should do! Build each other up! I want my mom to know that though she feels she wasn't able to accomplish all she set out to do that she has left me with an amazing legacy! I now want to encourage her that it is never too late! Love you mom:)
